PPSSPP

PSP online multiplayer via ad-hoc

Installation

1

Download PPSSPP

Download PPSSPP Gold or the free version from ppsspp.org. On Windows, grab the 64-bit installer. On Android/iOS, install from your app store.

2

Add your games

Place PSP ISO or CSO files in a folder. In PPSSPP, navigate to that folder to add your games to the library.

3

Configure graphics

Go to Settings → Graphics. For netplay, keep rendering resolution at 1× (or 2× maximum) to reduce CPU load. Enable "Auto frameskip" only as a last resort — it causes stuttering that affects multiplayer.

Ad-Hoc Netplay via PPSSPP Server

4

What is ad-hoc mode

PSP multiplayer used ad-hoc (local wireless) networking. PPSSPP emulates this by tunneling ad-hoc connections over the internet through a server.

5

Enable ad-hoc server in PPSSPP

Go to Settings → Networking → Enable built-in PRO ad-hoc server (or use a custom server). The default PPSSPP ad-hoc server address is "socom.cc" or "myneighborsucks.com" — check the PPSSPP community for the current recommended server.

You can also run a local ad-hoc server and use a VPN (ZeroTier, Radmin, Hamachi) to connect friends on the same virtual LAN.
6

Enable networking features

In Settings → Networking, enable "Enable networking/WLAN", set your nickname, and configure the ad-hoc server address.

7

Connect with a VPN (recommended)

For the most reliable experience, use ZeroTier or Radmin VPN. All players join the same virtual network. In PPSSPP, set "Change Mac address" to your actual device MAC or a unique address per player.

ZeroTier is free for up to 25 devices and gives you a stable virtual LAN with minimal overhead.
8

Launch multiplayer

Start the game → navigate to the in-game multiplayer/ad-hoc menu → create or join a room. Your opponent should be connected to the same ad-hoc server or VPN network.

Port Forwarding (without VPN)

9

Required ports

PPSSPP ad-hoc mode uses UDP ports 27312–27313 (default). Forward these on your router to your PC's local IP address.

UDP 27312-27313 → [your local IP]
10

Find your local IP

On Windows: open Command Prompt → run `ipconfig`. Look for your adapter's IPv4 address (e.g. 192.168.1.x).

Troubleshooting

11

Cannot find opponent's room

Confirm both players are connected to the same ad-hoc server address. Some servers go offline — if the default isn't working, try an alternative or host your own PRO server.

12

Game doesn't show multiplayer option

Not all PSP games support ad-hoc multiplayer. Check the PPSSPP compatibility database to confirm your game's multiplayer status.

Some games require specific PPSSPP versions or settings. Check game-specific guides on the PPSSPP forums.
13

High latency / disconnections

Ad-hoc tunneling is sensitive to latency. Stay on Ethernet, choose a geographically close server, and keep ping below 80 ms.
